Hi folks, I’m Bill, WB3CQK. I got my license back in 1976 at the age of 20. Between work and home I didn’t have time to play with radio as much as I would have liked. But now that I’m retired, I have time to have more radio fun. The only problem is there are too many radio things to play with — sats/ISS, digital modes, AREDN, and all of the more traditional radio stuff like DX chasing and ragchewing. Never an end to the fun.
Home Station
- ICOM IC-7300 — HF/50MHz, 100W
- Kenwood TS-2000
- Chameleon EMCOMM-III-B
Mobile
- ICOM IC-7100 — All-Mode, HF/6M/2M/70cm, D-STAR, DV
- AH-4 auto tuner connected to an 80m Hamstick. Good results on all HF bands except 160m while mobile. When stationary, adding extra wire to the whip makes 160m contacts possible too.
Portable
- ICOM IC-705
- Xiegu G90
- Yaesu FT-897
- ICOM ID-51
- AnyTone 878UV
Interests
- Satellites and ISS contacts
- Digital and weak-signal modes — FT8, JS8Call, Winlink
- AREDN mesh networking and emerging RF technology
- DX chasing and ragchewing — the traditional stuff is still the fun stuff
